Date Yourself: The Importance of Taking Time for Self-Care
As a busy mom, it can be easy to forget about yourself. Between work, kids, and all of life's other demands, it can be challenging to find time for yourself. But taking time for yourself is crucial for your mental health and overall well-being. One of the best ways to do this is by taking yourself on a date.
Yes, you read that right. A date with yourself.
I know it might sound a bit odd, but hear me out. A date with yourself can be a wonderful opportunity to recharge and reset. It's a chance to do something you enjoy, without any distractions. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you like.
Maybe you'll go to your favorite coffee shop and read a book, or take a walk in the park, or even go to a movie alone. Whatever it is that you choose to do, make sure it's something that you truly enjoy.
When you take yourself on a date, you're sending yourself a message that you're worth it. That you matter. That you deserve to take a break from all the demands of life and do something just for yourself.
I know that it can be challenging to find the time, and sometimes it can feel selfish to prioritize yourself over others. But trust me, it's not selfish. In fact, taking care of yourself is one of the most selfless things you can do. When you take care of yourself, you're better able to take care of those around you.
As I write this, I’m on my own much needed solo date. My husband is a track coach and we have been in the thick of track season, which means endless days, nights, and Saturdays of solo parenting for me. This was the first Saturday that I can remember that he doesn’t have a meet, so I jumped at the chance to have an afternoon alone. It started with a solo lunch at CoreLife Eatery, a much needed mani/pedi, cold brew, and quiet time to think and write at a coffee shop. It’s been life giving and exactly what this over-stimulated momma needed.
So, next time you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed, consider taking yourself on a date. It doesn't have to be anything extravagant, just something that brings you joy. It's a small act of self-love that can make a big difference in your overall well-being.
Remember, you deserve it.
